Fix Up Look Hard

Images from school

I took this picture because I though it was interesting to look by the eye so I took a picture of it to see how it would look as a still image. I think this image could be very effective if used appropriately in a drama or a novel genre film as this could be used to tell a characters childhood days to show time passing. I really like the reflections in the image but, if I were to take this picture I would crop out some stuff as they are not important in the frame. I like the composition of the shot because it's not boring to look at as the images are vertical and horizontal not just in straight lines which makes it more interesting also it could have connotation of the persons personality that he don't care about the childhood and memories as the photos are all over the place and not organised. The artificial lighting shining on the pictures could have a meaning these pictures are more meaningful to the person.

When you look at this image straight away it gives the sense of loneliness and by placing a character in the frame would really makes understand how he feels and what he is going through. I would expect to see this type of shot used in a drama film showing a character going through bad times in their life. I think I used the lighting really well because it kind of shows a contrast between the for e.g. placing a character in low key lighting and in high key lighting and placing them in both sides would tell how their lives are very different to each other which I think it would be really effective to use. Therefore I might consider using this type of shot, angle and lighting if it's appropriate to my genre.

This image is effective because of the reflection when we were given the task I set my own goals what I want to achieve by the end of it I didn't want just take pictures and not gain nothing out of it I wanted to improve my skills different elements in the shot such as lighting and reflections and making the image interesting to the viewer. Which I think I did with this image because you can see the window reflection on the squares however, this image don't look very effective, but I though about how could I make it interesting if I were to use it in my 5min film firstly I would really think about what I want in the frame and maybe adjust the lighting using low key. You could use this shot in the horror or thriller kind of film using raining and lighting sound effects and panning down to a character with looking down creating mystery. I also like the squares creating a symmetry which could have connotations of time passing.

What I really like about this image is the high key and low key lighting, the black colour representing darkness, fear also the lines on the window really makes the atmosphere like your in a locked up place. I would expect to see this shot in horror films such as ''SAW''. The natural light could represent peace, brave which I think they really go well together the white and the black. As I took the shot from a low angle it gives the image power. Also the lines in the circle creates the symmetry.

I don't really like this shot as it don't really have any connotations about it however I like the object in the image that's the reason I took this shot because it looks interesting and the feedback I got from my group asking what was it which I think it would be a waste of a shot to use in my 5min film as it don't have a meaning and the audience wouldn't know what it is. However, I really like the colours in the image the red representing love, danger, exit. The white representing peace, life and heaven. The yellow representing happiness, friendship and caution. The black representing darkness, power and mystery. Also the red splat looks like blood therefore we could suggest this image is representing horror genre. I really like the colours in the image as they all represent something different. By taking this image I learnt how colours could also have a big part in the shot with a meaning.

The reasoning for taking the picture was to experiment my creativity to take the shot from a different angle to make it more interesting and to see by just taking a shot from a different angle how it could tell a story of just a object. The denotation of the image is a red fire extinguisher which could have connotation of fire and danger. I would expect to see this shot in films with the narrative of someone escaping and being locked up in the place and using this as a weapon for protection. The composition of the shot is a bit more to the left however, as it its only one object in the frame we could say is important even though is not in the center of the frame. The lighting in this shot is really effective as the lighting just shines on the object (high key lighting) therefore it draws your attention straight away to the object which could be representing an idea for a character in the film an example of this would be from a film 'Amelie' where they used an effect to show the key in her pocket which was shining. I really like the fact that it starts as high key and gets darker to low key lighting. The main colour in the image red could have connotations of exit and escapism.

I like this image and at the same I don't the reason I like this it's because this shot is effective and I would expect to see this image in horror/thriller genre type of films showing a character standing in the door way which I think would really be effective to the audience without showing the face therefore it would create mystery and enigma and this would make audience to watch till the end to find out. However, If I were to use this image again I would use low key lighting as I think it would be more effective. The reason I don't like this image because the reflection is not as clear the pictures on the wall don't have nothing to do and they are necessary objects. The dennotation of this image is the art work and the reflection from it however, even though the objects are necessary the red colour could have connotations of danger, blood and death and then we see the door way which makes me feel if you go through the door you don't know what's there which makes it effective and creates enigma. When I took this image I didn't really think about organisation and didn't think what I want people to see in the frame therefore If I would take this picture again I would of not included the second display board which is necessary to the shot. The composition of an image as you can see one of the display board is better lit and have more space in the shot which represents the importance of it in the shot and this could also have a meaning of the two objects relationship being not well as other is more lit this could mean it has more power than the other. The framing of the shot as you can see one of the display board takes up more space then the other and one being more brighter and other darker it kind of creates juxtaposition between the two. The lighting used in the image is artificial high key lighting that is the reason why I took from a angle like this because I wanted to experiment with the lighting to see how it has a meaning behind it and I learnt from this image that you don't need to have character or many objects to tell a meaning through image.

What I really like about this image is the low key lighting and high key lighting even though it's just a window it has the effect as you watching a fantasy genre film. The connotation it has that there is like two different places white representing the good and black the bad juxtaposition. I took this shot to see how the lighting will work and it works well as the we could clearly see the window and what's out there but we can't see around it. Another connotation of this image could be escapism someone wants to escape and get out there.

The reason I took this image because of the high and low key lighting and also because I want to understand more about the lighting and make shots be more effective and meaningful as for my 5min were are not allowed to use dialogue therefore I really need to make sure I am good at other elements of a shot. I really like the fact the lighting gets darker and darker. I would expect to see this type of shot in the films such as ''Drag me to hell'' as they used lighting really effective throughout the film. As a moving image this would be effective as I would do it as a panning shot slowly and maybe leading to a character standing in the corridor which I can imagine would look really effective with this lighting. By looking at this image we can denote the dark colours the connotation of this photograph really don't look the place you would want to be in and welcome in,I would expect to see this shot/setting in horror films. It's difficult to analyse an image like this as it don't have any objects in it. However, the lighting works well as I said but the thing that makes it not as effective the object on the wall. If I were to take this again I would try not to get the board in the frame.

By looking at this image the first thing we can denote is the high key artificial lighting. However if you look at the image we can also see low key lighting so it's like a contrast between the two (black&white). The connotation that this could have the bright low key lighting representing the good and low key lighting the bad and evil, I took this picture from a low angle because I wanted to create the effect of like the mystery. I think this shot is very effective towards the audience as they would want to see what will happen next and it would be even more effective if you could see the legs of a character that would make the audience even more interested.
What I really like about the shot is the organisation the lines make you look up and follow the steps which compliments it well.
Furthermore the composition of the image as you can see everything is tight so you don't really have to look twice before you spot any objects etc also the focus is clearly on the lines as the steps not as clear and you could say they are blurred out. This type of shot I would expect to see in the horror or a thriller type of genre because if I were to watch a film and see this shot it would make to watch it more therefore I will consider using this shot in my 5min film.
The framing of the shot kind of creates an enigma and the black and white colours creates juxtaposition.
